Coaching Opportunities

FOCUS isn"t just about playing sport, it is about taking up opportunities to develop life skills and great training opportunities.

Currently through the FOCUS project we have qualified over 20 young people in their Junior Football Organiser Qualification as well as 3 young people with their level 1. If you are interested in coaching, both these qualifications are the first steps that you can take towards a possible career in coaching.

It is not just opportunities in becoming a football coach that we can offer you through FOCUS, but generic opportunities to learn more about becoming a leader in sport, such as the Sports Leaders Awards, level 1 and 2.

Below is some more information on the different courses that FOCUS can offer you and also ideas and opportunities that it can create for you.

Junior Football Organiser

How long does the course last:
The course lasts 8hrs, and we normally run it over two sessions on two different days.

How much is theory and how much is practical:
There is only a short amount of theory with the rest of the course practical - playing football! You will be supported through both the theory and practical of the course and we will ensure we give you as much support as needed to help you pass.

How do I pass:
You need to make sure that you come to both sessions and complete the different tasks set. At the end of the 2 sessions you will work with another person on the course to deliver a small, short coaching drill to the rest of the group. As well as delivering a coaching drill, you will work as a group to organise a small festival for the younger players in the FOCUS project. You will be guided through this process by the FOCUS co-ordinators.

What do I get at the end of it:
At the end of the course you will receive your certificate for the Junior Football Organiser.

We taylor the course so that you will get the most from it and come out with a qualification at the end of it.

Level 1 Coaching Course

This is the UK's most popular coaching course and is the ideal introduction to coaching for all coaches with little experience or knowledge. The course is open entry and participants do not need any experience to take part, just an interest in coaching and the motivation to improve their skills and understanding.

How long does the course last:
We run the course over three consecutive days for you, normally 9am - 5pm. As well completing the 3 day course, you will be required to do a 3hr basic first aid course.

How much is theory and how much is practical:
The majority of the course is practical with a small amount of it theory to it.

How do I pass:
You need to attend all 3 days and carry out a 10 minute coaching session on the last day. As with all the courses FOCUS offers, we will support you through the course, both in the practical and the theory. You must also complete the 3hr first aid course.

What do I get at the end of it:
At the end of the course you will receive your level 1 coaching certificate.
