Guy Nicholas - Focus Founder

Guy has been a Police officer for the last 10 years, prior to this he worked in the Leisure Industry and has always been keen on sports activities, basketball being his main passion. Back in 2005 FOCUS was born and with the help of partners has become the success it is today. Its aim is to direct and challenge our younger communities into positive activities. A number of ex members are now focused on the importance of a sense of direction and being part of a community, this is one of many reasons while I will continue to be part of this project.

Gavin Haynes – Poole Focus Co-ordinator

Gavin has been a Police officer for the last 4 years and in the last 12 months has become very involved in the FOCUS project. A keen football himself he has now taken on the role of Police Co-ordinator for Poole area, his role ensuring that Dorset Officers and PCSO’s are supported in there coaching roles within the communities they Police. Virginia Bailey - Sports Development Officer BOP

My role as Recreation Development Officer in the Borough, is to encourage more people to participate in physical activity on a regular basis. Within my role I work with schools, youth centres, sports clubs, disability groups, Community Groups and National Governing Bodies of sports to make this happen.
My role within FOCUS is to work with the other co-ordinators, to help ensure that the all the different elements of FOCUS run smoothly. From the tournaments and leagues to attracting funding to make sure that we can continue to keep FOCUS running! I work with Guy, Colin, Dom and Elspeth to plan carefully how we can best develop FOCUS to meet the needs of all those involved – from the young people to the police officers, youth workers and volunteers who are extremely committed and dedicated to ensuring that FOCUS continues to grow from strength to strength.


Colin Dutfield Youth Services Focus Co-ordinator

I work for the Borough of Poole Youth Service, now as Locality Co-ordinator 13-19's East covering the Branksome, Bourne Valley and Bearwood areas of the town. My involvement with FOCUS has primarily been around liaising between the Project's Steering Group and the youth centres involved and co-ordinating the fixtures/results of the various tournaments and leagues. As another part of my youth work role I have also supported the recognition of young people's participation in the project using the Duke of Edinburgh's Award and helped with the delivery of FA Junior Football Organisers and Sports Leadership Courses that 30+ Focus participants have undertaken gaining further accreditation.


Dominic Wier

I am Football Coordinator for Nacro the crime reduction charity. My remit is too provide football related activity for young people from targeted/disadvantaged communities and build positive relationships with them using pro-social modelling as the method. This is achieved by recruiting volunteers and seasonal coaches from a wide and varied background that are consistent with commitment, behaviour and being a friendly ear as well as having FUN! Nacro have been a key figure in the delivery and development of accreditation of the FA Level 1 courses, JFO and Sports Leaders Awards My role within focus is as the organiser and delivery person for all tournaments. We provide goals and referees and volunteers to support the events on every level. I am and will continue to be a supporter and co-ordinater for Focus.

Espleth Gregson

Elspeth is a Volunteer Co-ordinator for Nacro Dorset. I have worked for Nacro for the past 2 years. My role in Focus is to recruit and support our volunteers, who mainly undertake refereeing and linesperson duties, together with other valuable supporting roles. You will also see me taking photographs at league and tournament events. I spent my early years in Sheffield, and moved to Poole with my family. I worked in the health service for 16 years, mainly managing volunteers, work experience students and secretarial and clerical temporary staff.
